How to split PDF

It takes less than a minute with PDFHeron.

  1. Open the PDF

Drop your file onto this page.

  2. Choose how to split

Enter page ranges such as 1-3, 4-10, 11-; split every N pages; or make one PDF per page.

  3. Check the summary

The dialog tells you how many files will be created before you start.

  4. Download

One part downloads as a PDF; several parts arrive together in a ZIP file.

Three ways to split

Custom ranges are ideal for pulling chapters or sections out of a report. “Every N pages” cuts batches of scanned forms into equal parts. “Every page” turns a document into single-page PDFs. Ranges can overlap, and an open-ended range like 11- runs to the last page.

Or extract pages visually

Prefer to point and click? Select thumbnails in the Pages panel (Shift-click for a range, Ctrl-click for individual pages) and press the scissors button to save just those pages as a new PDF.

Pages are copied without re-rendering, so text stays selectable and graphics stay sharp. Any edits you made, such as signatures, highlights or page numbers, are included in every part.

Why use PDFHeron to split PDF?

Private by design

PDFHeron processes files on your device. No uploads, no cloud copies, no one else ever sees your documents.

Real editing

Change existing text and delete content from the file itself, not just paint boxes on top of it.

Instant & offline-ready

No queues or upload waits. Big documents open in seconds, and editing keeps working without a connection.

True redaction

Redacted areas are permanently removed from saved PDFs, so hidden text can’t be copied back out.

Standard PDF output

Saved files are regular PDFs with selectable text that open in Acrobat, Preview, Chrome and every other reader.

Split PDF: FAQ

Does splitting change the original file?

No. Splitting creates new files and leaves your document as it is.

Can I split a PDF into single pages?

Yes. Choose “Every page into its own PDF” and you get one file per page in a ZIP.

How do I write page ranges?

Separate ranges with commas: 1-3, 5, 8-12. A range without an end, like 13-, runs to the last page. Each range becomes one PDF.

Will the parts include my edits?

Yes. Annotations, text and signatures on those pages are included.
